The director of the hospital where Hosny Mubarak has been staying on Sunday denied earlier reports that the ousted Egyptian president is in a coma.

State television reported the denial shortly after quoting Mubarak's lawyer Farid al-Dib as saying that the deposed leader had suffered a stroke and had lapsed into a coma.

Mubarak, 83, has been in a hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. He suffered a heart attack during an interrogation in April.

Mubarak and his sons, Gamal and Alaa, are scheduled to face trial on August 3 on charges of corruption and their alleged role in the deaths of pro-democracy protesters.

Mubarak was forced to step down on February 11 after an 18-day nationwide uprising.
