A bus crashed near the Moroccan port of Essaouira overnight, killing at least 16 people, among them foreigners, a medical official said on Tuesday.

Around a dozen people were injured in the accident, which police said occurred when the bus from Agadir overturned on a road, possibly due to speeding.

Moroccan roads are among the most dangerous in the world. More than 4,000 people die in traffic accidents in the country each year, according to official figures.
