President Jacob Zuma congratulated leaders of Sudan and South Sudan on an agreement reached between the two countries, the department of international relations said on Friday.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank both presidents for the leadership demonstrated by them in achieving this milestone," Zuma said in a statement.

"We are confident that Sudan and South Sudan, through the implementation of these agreements, will introduce a new era of increased co-operation and mutually beneficial co-existence of the peoples of Sudan and South Sudan."

President Omar Al-Bashir (Sudan) and President Salva Kiir Mayardit (South Sudan) agreed on a comprehensive settlement on security, soft borders, oil transportation and economic co-operation, as mediated by the African Union High Level Implementation Panel, department spokesman Clayson Monyela said.
