Noela Rukundo's trip to her native country of Burundi for her stepmother’s funeral turned into a nightmare when her husband tried to have her killed.

According to BBC, Rukundo's husband Balenga Kalala, had stayed behind in Australia, where the couple lived with their children.

He called Rukundo at her hotel and advised her to take a walk.

Outside, a man approached her with a gun.

'Don't scream. If you start screaming, I will shoot you,' he said to her.

He took Rukundo to an undisclosed location and the gang's leader called Kalala, who instructed them to kill her.

"I heard his voice [through the phone],' she said.

After the call, he said: 'We're not going to kill you. We don't kill women and children ... We give you 80 hours to leave.'

She called her pastor in Melbourne for help.

Three days later, she was in Melbourne.

'... People had been inside mourning with him and he was escorting a group of them into a car,' reports theyolandaadamsmorningshow.com.

'When I get out of the car ... He put his hands on his head and said, 'Is it my eyes? Is it a ghost?''

'Surprise! I'm still alive!' she replied.

Kalala made a full confession to her.

'He say[s] he wanted to kill me because he was jealous... He think[s] that I wanted to leave him for another man.'
