A teacher in Meru County, Kenya, was on Tuesday charged for sexually assaulting 10 pupils.

Forty-five-year-old Julius Mwiti was said to have used his fingers to penetrate the private parts of the girls, aged between 8 and 11, between November last year and March 7 this year.

Mwiti, however, denied the charges and was released on bail, amid reports that he also faced another case over the support of a child he had with a former pupil at the same school.

Teen pregnancies are on the rise in Kenyan schools, with a recent survey blaming it on teachers and motorbike taxi operators.

According to The Star, most of the teen mothers end up dropping out of school or entering into early marriage.
