Thousands of Durban commuters have been left stranded as taxi operators begin a two-day strike in the city.

Commuters were seen walking to work on Monday morning as already full buses were unable to accommodate them.

It was believed taxi operators downed tools because they claimed metro police were harassing them.

The strike affected the whole Durban metropole. No incidents of violence or traffic interruptions had been reported by 8am.
