The Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) strike will continue for at least one more day, the SA Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu) says.

Satawu leaders were consulting their striking members as quickly as possible on Prasa's latest offer of a 10 percent wage increase, said the union's national sector co-ordinator Tinzi Lubabalo.

He said they would not complete their work before 1pm on Thursday.

"We are very excited with the move. We characterise the agreement as a progressive one," said Lubabalo.

"Our members indicated they wanted [double-digits] we believe that we have met and delivered on the mandate."

Satawu and the United Transport and Allied Trade Union (Utatu) began a strike on Monday that saw services shut down at Metrorail, Shosholoza Meyl and Autopax bus services across the country.

Utatu general secretary Chris de Vos said that the 10 percent offer would be accepted by the union's members but one issue remained.

"The 10 percent will be accepted by our members, there's a specific clause about service conditions that is the stumbling block."

De Vos said they were meeting Prasa representatives at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration to iron out the last detail.

"If we could settle on that then Metrorail trains may be running tomorrow [Thursday]," he said.
