The City of Cape Town's electricity tariffs will rise by a quarter this week, the municipality says

The hike, effective from July 1, was the result of Eskom's 29 percent increase in bulk tariffs to the city.

The Eskom increase, together with spending on the electricity network, meant the city had to raise its tariffs by an average of 24.6 percent for the coming financial year.

This would not affect those parts of the city that fell in Eskom distribution areas and where Eskom increases were implemented in April.
