Airports Company SA has won a bid for the expansion, maintenance and operation of Brazil's busiest airport, Guarulhos.
"[This] will enhance Acsa's brand and better position it in the market as a serious participant in global airport investment and management," Acsa acting managing director Bongani Maseko said.
"We secured an opportunity in India a few years ago. Now we have Brazil and are pursuing similar ventures in Africa."
Acsa won 51% of the concession and Infraero, of Brazil, got the rest.
Acsa said it would provide airport management through a technical service agreement.
Some of the tasks include preparing operational plans for the 2013 Confederations Cup, the pope's visit for World Youth Day in 2013, and the 2014 soccer World Cup.
The concession is for 20 years.
Maseko said that, in addition to the investment return on capital contributions, Acsa would be paid airport management fees.
The next step is for the consortium partners to sign the concession and related agreements by May.
