Mango tightens booking requirements
AIRLINE Mango is beefing up anti-fraud procedures following an increase in fraudulent transactions and the use of cloned cards.
Passengers making online and telephonic card bookings will be required at check-in to produce the physical card or a copy of it as well as a copy of the cardholder's identity document.
Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout said the procedure was designed to protect cardholders.
During a test period, the airline had discovered as many as three cloned cards in two days, he said.
Travellers could help prevent theft by not packing valuables in checked luggage.
"Expensive items such as cellphones, cameras, tablets and gifts should never be checked in. Keep it on your person and avoid creating temptation." - I-Net Bridge.
SA and Gibraltar join against tax dodgers
GIBRALTAR has signed a tax information exchange agreement with South Africa, the SA Revenue Service confirmed yesterday.
Gibraltar's finance minister, Gilbert Licudi, signed his country's 20th tax information exchange agreement earlier this month.
Licudi said tax information exchange agreements were fundamental to help widen the scope of business opportunities for Gibraltar-based financial services firms.
"The government has said it wanted to broaden Gibraltar's business prospects to include more countries outside Europe," he said.
Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan said South Africa welcomed the signing of the agreement. Such agreements provided the legal basis for effective exchange of information, which is a vital function in the fight against tax evasion.
"South Africa looks forward to future cooperation and assistance between our jurisdictions in this global endeavour, which is already reflecting major progress towards more transparency in tax matters," Gordhan said.
SARS said the agreement with Gibraltar was based on the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development model agreement widely used internationally. The signed agreement will now be presented to parliament for ratification.
"It will enter into force once the necessary ratification and formal steps have been completed in both jurisdictions," SARS said. - I-Net Bridge
