According to Sake24, which is effectively the online version of Afrikaans newspaper Sake, Zuma intervened on Friday after last week's reports that the board wanted Maroga to go.

As a consequence, the Eskom board has been embroiled in an fierce dispute with government, mainly Public Enterprises minister Barbara Hogan and her deputy Enoch Godongwana, said the report.

"Meanwhile, Eskom is apparently leaderless and the electricity giant's lips are sealed," the report said.

An unnamed source told Sake24 its is "tremendously disconcerting" that the leadership of an organisation that has so much strategic significance for the whole country had " been paralysed in this way by intervention from politicians".

According to this source, Eskom's board decided that Maroga should vacate his post and while he was formally asked to resign; he refused "which implies that he was fired".

Zuma reportedly heard about the board's plans on Friday morning and immediately ordered Hogan to intervene to prevent the dismissal.

The report added that the ensuing squabble between the board and government representatives has got so bad that it may culminate in the entire Eskom board being given its marching orders.

Hmmm.... Umsholozi is intervening in people getting out of jail in ethopia, getting out of jail b.w.o. "terminal illnesses" and prez pardons, and now he is intervening to save a man's job which clearly he isn't doing all that well... And it might just be a good thing to eplace the complete board...

And this zuma fellow knows more of what is happening in Eskom than the board mandated to do this. To the board members who appear to be principled, resign now and allow the comrades, especially sh0wer head to appoint his political friends and backers as they are hellbent on destroying everything that should be functioning in this forsaken country of ours.

This story enlightens the fact job for pals no matter how bad you do, pays.
I would have thought Zuma would have endorsed the boards decision considering he is is on record uttering," heads will roll for poor service delivery and corruption."

This is Barbara Hogan's territory. I doubt the credibility of this report suggesting Zuma intervened.

What does the President know that the board doesn't know that he'd even intervene on the board's recommendation of getting rid of Mr Maroga whom in my view the board viewed as incapable of executing its resolutions/had no plan of getting the company out of the woods?

If the report's are true, then President Zuma should explain his reason for intervening in saving Mr Maroga.I hope the president is not encouraging incompetent leadership in our trying times. Zuma must be bold, decisive and not be a softie on his comrades. Some of them will take advantage of his lenient attitude and behaviour.

Sickening if true...it certainly can't be for economic or market reasons and definitely not to prevent the public from panicking - the 45% increase is public knowledge and already has sent shivers down our spines

So much for the Zuma promise to deal with incompetents. I suppose sacking Maroga reflects on his buddy Jeff who started the rot. See: http://letterdash.com/g.annandale/my-rdp-house-for-a-shack
