Andi Bengis's guide on how to cope with stress and avoid depression:
- Find something you can do that has nothing to do with work - flower arranging, ballroom dancing or going to the park. It might be going to a movie on Tuesday nights, which will give you something to look forward to when you become especially stressed;
- You are not your job - find ways to clearly separate work and home;
- Get out of your office during the day. Go for a walk outside, even for a short time;
- Take your lunch break and tea breaks. When you are under financial pressure and need to make yourself appear indispensable, it is tempting not to leave your desk. Breaks, however, will make you more productive, not less;
- Do something every day that makes you feel happy. It can be something really small that takes 10 minutes, but it will make a difference;
- Exercise is vital. It doesn't have to be an hour-long ultra-hard workout, but you need to burn off the stress or you will become an adrenalin factory, which will take you straight to burn-out;
- If your job involves working at a computer all day, then your downtime should not include a screen. You need to do something different.
