New SMS scam - seller beware

Times LIVE | 11 October, 2010 14:000 Comments

The Wireless Application Service Providers' Association of South Africa warns that there is a new scam targetting people who sell second hand goods.

The scammers simply fake a message to your phone, using commecial SMS messaging services, saying that the money they paid for your goods has been deposited.

The seller later finds out when looking at his or her bank account that payment wasn't made.

The scam is targetted at people who sell in newspaper classifieds and online services like Gumtree, mostly on weekends and evenings.
