Many of us look forward to a beer or glass of wine after a long day at work.

But workers in some industries are more likely to hit the bottle - or take drugs - than others, a US government study has found.

Miners and builders were the biggest boozers, with about 17% of them classed as "heavy drinkers".

Among hotel or restaurant staff, 11.8% admitted to binge drinking five or more times in the past month. They are also the most likely to take drugs.

Reassuringly, among doctors and nurses, only 4.4% are in the "heavy drinker" category.

In 2009, a UK department of health report found people in the media were the heaviest drinkers, consuming four bottles of wine a week.
