A coalition is not a merger: Maimane

The leader of the Democratic Alliance‚ Mmusi Maimane. says people should not see coalition governments as mergers of political parties. Speaking to reporters in Tshwane‚ Maimane said the DA could run all the three metros of Gauteng – Johannesburg‚ Tshwane and Ekurhuleni through coalitions.However‚ coalitions could not be made with just any political party.WATCH: Late on Friday afternoon the DA celebrated being the biggest party in Tshwane ahead of the final results being announced. Maimane took the occasion to congratulates mayor-in-waiting Solly Msimanga.“A coalition does not mean a merger. We are certainly not merging with any political party. We should not make an assumption that as I sit here today we are desperate to get into any government. We will work with people whose interest are for the people of South Africa…We not in the interest of seeking power for power’s sake. We are in the interest of serving the people of this country‚” Maimane said.As at 11.40am‚ the African National Congress led with 45.2% in Gauteng. It was followed by the DA with 38.01% and EFF came in third place with 11.27%. At this time‚ 99% of votes had been counted in the province.With the ANC support having taken a huge drop in the three metros in Gauteng‚ the DA is already in a good position to lead the country’s capital Tshwane‚ economic hub Johannesburg and manufacturing base in Ekurhuleni.Maimane promised South Africans that the DA would deliver on its commitment of good governance wherever it led...
