Ukhozi FM DJs suspended for playing Malema song

Two Ukhozi FM presenters have been reportedly been suspended for a month after playing a controversial song about ANCYL president Julius Malema.

The Witness newspaper reported on Friday that the two apparently played the song during the traditional music show "Utalagu" on Saturday and were suspended on Thursday.

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago told the newspaper the station decided to take presenters Khathide "Tshatha" Ngobe and Ngizwe Mchunu off air after they played the song, which was not on the playlist.

"This is not about the song, but about the two disregarding the rules. The song was not scheduled on the show’s playlist.

"This decision was made after a meeting in which the two were given a chance to explain themselves, where they did admit to their wrongdoing."

"The station and the SABC take the breaching of these rules seriously," said Kganyago.

Izingane Zoma, a maskandi group, reportedly wrote a song accusing Malema of being uncontrollable and of criticising the ANC leadership.

The single, called uMalema, was recently sent to radio stations and was expected to hit the shelves of Durban music shops on Thursday.

African National Congress Youth League secretary general Sindiso Magaqa said it would fight the release of the song in court and would sue the group for defamation.

"If they release that stupid song, we will hit them hard," Magaqa said.

Kganyago said the presenters had focused on the song because of the controversy it had attracted, disregarding the fact that it was not on the playlist.

"You don’t just go to the archives and retrieve a song without approval. This rule applies to all presenters in all stations," he said.

The same group released the song, Msholozi, after President Jacob Zuma's clan name, before he was elected ANC president in 2007. It called for him to be president and for corruption charges against him to be dropped.

Why don't I believe you, Kganyago? Scared of Malema are we? Why don't you then put the song on the playlist?

I would comment the same way.
However, you cannot compare a song like 'shoot the boer' which calls for killing (or at a minimum maiming) a certain group of people to a song badmouthing Malema. I don't think the song says anything about killing Malema.

Playing STB song is unlawful as it is banned by court order uMalema is NOT therefore the SABC as in the days of apartheid is exercising self censorship thank goodness we have the internet and independent radio and TV stations even LM old (Lourenco Marques Radio) broadcasting from Maputo. I am going to buy this CD as soon as it hits the shelf!

Of course,Shoot The Boer song is a bad song and I would have even given thumbs up for the Djs to get fired for playing it,particularly that there even has been a TRUTH & RECONCILIATION COMMISSION to forgive and forgt,in SA!
But the now played song seems innocent as it simply exposes the unruly youth whose mouth and tongue are not connected to his brain cortex.

SHOOT THE BOER IS NOT A MALEMA SONG AND IT IS NOT ABOUT WHITE GENOCIDE......the more you people understand that the better you all will sleep at night.....Afriforums populist agenda is leading you oakes into darkness. That song was sung by many of us including myself during the 80's and was directed at the regime in the apartheid era........GET OVER IT!!!!!

I support the SABC. Opportunists, like the maskandi group, seek to benefit from a confusion which sows seeds of contention. The song is not educational, and does not contribute to Nation Building and harmony. It should be left to die a natural death. Songs like these should be left to a Steve Hofmeyer to sing at private events.

So you only listen to "educational songs" and songs that contribute to nation building and harmony? You can't be listening to much music then.

Can you give me one example of a song which sows a seed of discord in a peaceful society? All songs in a way build a nation, from Mozart to Brenda Fassie. Although not all are educational, they still support a united nation. Do you remember Arthur Mafokate's 'don't call me Ka@fir", it was palyed widely and I know some whites who used love it, I dance to the song with my white friends. The words were understood in a context of nation building. It's like a black young man saying to his 'friends whasup nig@gers!'. Or like one retarded person to a fellow retard "retard!". It's not one says but the context and the motif.

Continue to wipe the noses of ANC cronies and cadres, Mnbvcxzo. Do they look after you as well with a few choice tenders perhaps?

Hard working South African Artists deserve our support the ANCYL have just made this song a hit by trying to ban it just like the hit song "Gimme Hope Jo'anna" is a song originally by Eddy Grant, a well-known anti-apartheid reggae anthem from the 1980s, written during the apartheid era in South Africa. The song was banned by the South African government when it was released, but was widely played in South Africa nonetheless. It reached #7 in the UK Singles Chart, becoming Grant's first Top 10 hit for more than five years. BRING IT ON ! ANC censorship is APARTHEID! JUST LIKE THE E TOLL SYSTEM IS A NEW FORM OF DOMPAS.

ANC apartheid designed to keep citizens from moving freely and then using their tax money to enforce the new apartheid laws.

Quote from the witness "The controversial anti-Malema album and its title track Malema was distributed by the group’s record label Izingane Zoma company to radio stations yesterday.
Music stores who have not received stock yet say that customers have come into their outlets nationwide asking for the album.

“Demand for the product has gone through the roof… we should receive the stock within the week of release,” said Jet Music’s product manager Shiraaz Moola. The same goes for Dakota music, which is hoping to have the album in its stores by the end of next week.

The group’s producer, Busani Khuzwayo, said it is a coincidence that the song was released on the same day as the announcement of Malema’s disciplinary hearing verdict"

I have been continiously saying that these boys from Ukhozi FM are not representing public interest rather their vandetors. Ukhozi FM has become a podiam to settle scores! At least justice has been done to some of them!

human beings are funny - you are probably one of the people who feel the anc disciplinary action against malema is a means to silence his ideas or stifle debate.

No need to shout sweetie seems you need to go to the same anger management class as JM.

KTB is a racist incitement to white genocide that is why it is banned by the courts.

Well saying its ok to sing the song because so far no one has been killed because of it, is a bit like saying you dont need to wear belt because so far you've never been injured for not wearing one, dont you think?

I mean its the same argument - saying you can continue doing something (that is potentially dangerous) because so far nothing bad has happened as a result...?

The song is not for the post-TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION but for the pre-TRC days.Singing it now simply undoes what Mandela advocated for in calling for FORGIVENESS and PEACE.
Call for wisdom,Mandela is still alive and the blessing of living so many years around,is wisdom for us younger folks. The older the Mandelas and the Tutus are,the greater the wealth of wisdom they have to impart in us coz of their vast experience. The TRC was actually saying 4gv & 4get...U sing the song,it will work something in u or other hearers, coz WORDS ARE NOT EMPTY in themslves, that is why ppo end up killing themself after listening to and singing Rock music.U can do some research on this...Words are not empty...

Personlly,I feel let them be forgiven particularrly that the song does not insult any one though it simply highlights the divisive and disrespectful one!
How dare one opens one's mouth carelesly, even against a National leader like he does!I think he has God to thank so much for the place he finds himself in.If he had been in some of the countries that we know of,here in Africa,Malema should have long been DEPORTED from planet EARTH with his externals six feet in the belly of the earth for disrespecting top leaders like he does.South Africa is a true democracy,I tell u,when u compare it around...

Personally I agree with you that the song is decisive (KTB), however you keep on quoting a non UN or internationally sanctioned organization as a reference to agree with your point of view. They do chair the Organization to end genocide, however i think some of their views are very subjective in nature.
