No time for sleep at the Jozifest

It's great to live in Johannesburg.

A few years ago, the city's residents moaned about having nothing interesting to do over weekends.

Now we're spoiled for choice.

Since Braamfontein and the CBD have been revived as the hip, young babe-spotting scene, there are more and more people jumping on the inner- city bandwagon.

The Jozifest takes place in and around Newtown at the weekend, and the organisers, Killcool, Hilltop Live and Monster Energy, have a number of impressive acts joining their crew.

For starters, they've imported a whole lot of talent from the United Kingdom. Grooverider, the famed British drum 'n' bass DJ, will be spinning discs with a few of his compatriots, among them, Sub Zero, Heist, Felon and Junior Red, who will be setting the stage alight on the Street Stage. On the Carfax stage - a platform that has promoted the likes of Kruder and Dorfmeister and other international superstars - the Americans are hot favourites to reign supreme.

Eligh and Scarab take to the decks tonight, while Funtcase, Jenna G and Krafty MC from the UK will share the Carfax stage tomorrow with Marcus Wormstorm and more than 10 other acts. Back at the Street Stage, tomorrow night, Fokofpoliesikar, Lark, 340ml and Tasha Baxter play alongside Tidal Waves, Foto Na Dans, Zebra & Giraffe, Josie Field, Voodoo Child and many more.

For the rockers, there will be a dedicated Mash Stage and The Wood bar will be the VIP venue. Other venues participating in the revelry are Town Hall and Kitcheners, where a number of other musical styles will be performed. This weekend there will be no sleep for the wicked.
