NY stage for Tlale designs
Top fashion designer David Tlale flew to New York last nightto show his designs yet again to international critics and buyers.
He will capitalise on the hype around New York Fashion Week, which starts tomorrow, by presenting his "Glam-Intersections" collection at the South African c onsulate-g eneral's offices in the Big Apple on Tuesday.
The collection's 15 looks will also form part of his Joburg Fashion Week presentation next month.
It won't be his first appearance at one of the world's fashion capitals.
Tlale has shown his work abroad previously as part of group presentations.
But the New York show would be especially daunting, said Tlale, because he would be going it alone this time.
"We've looked at and studied trends in New York and realised that fashion has progressed and become more practical rather than avant-garde," he said.
"We've taken note without losing the DT signature.
"In this mammoth global fashion industry, I'm more nervous than ever."
Tlale said his "Glam-Intersections" collection represented a clashing of trends of the 1950s and 1970s and current trends, which could still be classified as ready-to-wear women's clothing.
The silhouettes were "defined", by pencil skirts in various lengths, and by blouses with bouquet sleeve detailing.
Tlale's frocks are be topped off with crocodile belts and his new DT range of luxury handbags.
He will showcase his work on March 9 during Joburg Fashion Week autumn/winter 2012, which opens on March 7 at the Sandton Convention Centre.
