SABC presenter in court over billboard

Earnings over a billboard built on public land are the source of a court battle between SABC2 Morning Live presenter Vuyo Mbuli and the city of Matlosana.

The municipality has asked the high court in Pretoria to hold Mbuli in contempt because they say the presenter has ignored a court order from March to pay revenue owed for a billboard he built on land owned by Matlosana, the Star newspaper wrote.

The billboard was built near Klerksdorp by a company jointly owned by Mbuli and his wife in November 2006.

In papers presented to the court, the municipality said the company was given the right to build billboards on their land. The company was, in turn, required to pay 20 percent of the advertising revenue for the billboards.

The municipality said it had not seen any money from the billboards.
