According to The Star, a Nando's poster advert read: "You shouldn't tweet when you are hungry, McIntosh."

"Next time you're thinking about tweeting, do yourself (and your followers) a favour and come to Nando's instead. Unlike your jokes, our flame-grilled Peri-Peri chicken is always tasteful."

Polela's tweets on Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye's murder conviction made headlines last Wednesday.

"I trust that JubJub's supporters gave him a jar of Vaseline to take to prison," Polela tweeted.

He later apologised on Twitter for the comment he had made.

The paper reported that Polela took to the social networking site again after the Nando's advert and said: "And Nando's owes me money 4 using my name to advertise chicken."

The fast food outlet has featured other newsmakers in its advertising campaigns , including Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe and Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Last year the fast food franchise pulled its "last dictator standing" tv commercial which had been aired in South Africa.

The advert showed Mugabe eating alone at Christmas, his empty table set for departed dictators, including Gaddafi.

To the soundtrack of "Those Were the Days," the commercial shows an actor playing Mugabe reminiscing about his times with former dictators. It portrays him and Gaddafi engaging in a water pistol fight, with Gaddafi wielding a golden AK47 rifle.

A Zimbabwean youth group loyal to Mugabe, called for a boycott of Nando's because of the advert.
