The nation’s top show jumpers will saddle up to compete over five days in a grueling competition with the winner of the derby to be decided on Sunday October 6, 2013.
Entrance during the week will be free to the public as riders and horses navigate their way through the preliminary stages of the race before the derby culminates in a grand finale on Sunday in front of expected crowds of 5 000 to 6 000. The weekend promises to be an exciting affair as show jumping lovers are treated to food, wine, entertainment and well groomed horses.
2012 South African Derby winner, Nicole Horwood is hoping to she can manage a repeat of last year’s success, “I'm very excited that it’s Derby time again. I really enjoy the fitness and training work that goes into preparing for the Derby. I hope to repeat the same performance as last year and remain focused and calm on the big day.”
Another favourite Barry Taylor is hoping that he and his horse Nissan Lassiter, who is appearing in the derby for the first time can challenge for honours am riding Nissan Lassiter in the Galencia Property SA Derby this year. It will be his first time and if he places I will be very happy. He is a brave, bold horse and I think a perfect Derby horse. His training is coming along and he has jumped a few world cups.
The “Gatsby Glitz” themed festivities will continue after the final as revelers head off to the after party to enjoy the sounds of top South African DJs including DJ Fresh and Pascal and Pearce while the ultra glamorous will be treated to VIP experience like no other in a marquee tent for 600 guests.
