A letter drafted by the Generations Actors Guild has indicated a surprise shift in the sacked sixteen Generations actors' stance on the pay dispute between themselves and MMSV.
In the letter, the sixteen agree to return to work.
The City Press reports that Bulelani Mzamo, who is representing the axed cast, sent the letter which details an agreement by the actors to return to work based on the acceptance of pay increases set in November 2013 and the issuing of three year contracts. This follows a meeting facilitated by SABC COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng and the actors to iron out their differences.
“Our clients are grateful that you agree to pay the rates agreed to in November 2013. They are also grateful that you agree to three-year contracts. In light of these developments, our clients immediately tender their services without any conditions. Should you agree to their unconditional tender of their services, you can directly contact them as to when they can resume work,” read the letter.
Meanwhile, Generations creator and MMSV owner, Mfundi Vundla is expected back from his overseas holiday this week. Vundla took time off to visit the USA in a bid to rest and reconceptualise the new Generations. He has previously stated he would not welcome the actors back as the relationship between himself and them had been damaged beyond repair.
The City Press also reports that Generations producer Frederich Stark and Vundla are set to meet to brainstorm on the future of the soapie in the face of Cosatu calling for a boycott of the drama. Cosatu today announced during a press conference they would march to the SABC in a show of solidarity for the actors.
While the return of the sixteen is apparently on the cards, Generations executives are said to be exploring the possibility of bringing back former cast members and recasting new faces in current roles.
