When the country went through load-shedding, people found things to keep them busy when the lights were out.

Now with Generation on a two-month break until the revamped version of the soapie comes back to our screens again, here are some things people can do to replace their 20:00 date with the SABC 1 soapie.

Read a book

Even if you read just for thirty minutes, reading is always good for you. Reading is good for many reasons, with benefits such as vocabulary expansion, improved focus and concentration and plenty other things Sibusiso Dhlomo could never teach you.

Play a board game

Games such as Scrabble, Monopoly and Chess are just some of the few games that help you spend time with family and friends whom you rarely speak to while glued to Generations.

Watch a series

Series like Game Of Thrones, NCIS: New Orleans, Grey's Anatomy, The Mentalist and plenty other things on TV are there for the watching.

Go Out

Okay, this might not be financially possible to do every night, but it’s good to once in a while go out with friends or family for dinner or drinks. This helps relax you while also meeting new interesting people.

Watch sport

Most guys had already been negotiating this with their girlfriends and wives, but with the 21 year-old soapie on a forced break, sport will probably be on people’s TV with the Premier Soccer League in full swing and the Champions League presenting great fixtures.
