The final edition of MTV Base's SA's hottest MCs list was revealed today with K.O taking the top spot.

The controversial list which has had social media abuzz since the second half of the list was released yesterday - is finally complete.

At number 1 is K.O , coming in at number 2 is Cassper Nyovest, the third spot goes to AKA And the last two spots are claimed by Khuli Chana and Ricky Rick.

About the criteria used to compile the list, MTV Base said: "Providing even more cred to this historical TV occasion is legendary master lyricist Tumi, who breaks down the criteria on what makes a hot MC:  lyrics, sales, style, impact, buzz and other intangibles that set one artist apart from the next."

About the list, @timthymaurice said: "The challenge with any awards is- judges are often biased by personal- personality preferences" with @SadianoRonaldo tweeting: " I personally feel that @akaworldwide had the better year and was far better this year."

@JayDumza said: "You can be the best lyricist on the planet, but if no one's aware of your existence then your talents will fall on deaf ears."

Number 1

K.O, became the artist who made hip hop history by being the first to attain over a million views for his smash tune, Caracara which added significantly to the rejuvenation of the local scene. His style, characterised by the use of the 'bucket hat', and cool township meets urban chic ensured that he has a strong diverse fan base. A co-owner of artist management company, Cashtime Life, K.O has reinvented his career to actively manage his career and introduce new artists to the industry.

Number 2

Cassper Nyovest has had a brilliant year, there is no doubt about that. His singles, Gusheshe, Doc Shebeleza, Tsbip and Phumakim have blazed charts one after the other this year. His sound is catchy and his lyrics relatable but it remains to be seen if he can smartly leverage off the buzz surrounding him to craft a long term career.

Number 3

AKA, the multi award winning rapper has been embroiled in a rap beef with fellow rap artist Cassper Nyovest for the past year. AKA has had hit singles Run Jozi, Congratulate, and collaborated on a number of singles with rappers Burna Boy, Duncan and Ice Prince.

Number 4

Khuli Chana Dubbed the 'Motswako Originator' Chana has inked a deal with KFC, and was nominated for a best hip hop award at the MTV Base Awards. Chana continues to stay on top of local hip hop fans mind's, having released a single, Nine Shots' referring to his ordeal with the police in which he was shot at by the SAPS.

Number 5

Rikhado Makhado, better known as Riky Rick made his major debut onto the hip hop scene with his single and remix, Amantombazane which featured heavyweights Kwesta who ironically comes in at number 9 on the list, newcomers Nadia Nakai and OKMalumkoolkat among others.
