With comedian Loyiso Gola at the helm, the Saftas 2015 were a mixed bag of hilarious moments, epic fails and surprising wins.

1. In between the breaks while TV viewers were watching adverts, guests at the Saftas were at the mercy of Loyiso Gola. When the cameras were rolling, Gola was on point, he improvised his script, peppering it with some of his own material.

But when the lights went off, he couldn't even make the audience crack a smile. Instead he walked around on stage, and uttered several times, 'this is awkward.' Well it was even more awkward for the guests. Next time, hosts should be well prepared to entertain even when the director shouts cut!

2. When Thomas Gumede brought his mother on stage to present her with his best TV comedy actor award, murmurs of oohs and aaahhs could be heard all round. It was a very tender moment and undoubtedly the highlight of the evening.

3. Warren Masemola finally cracking a nod in the best supporting actor for TV comedy was due. Masemola's knack at smartly yet believably bringing funny characters to life was duly recognised.

4. Somizi Mhlongo hijacked his mother, Mary Mhlongo's special moment. When picking up her award, Somizi saw fit to bring the spotlight onto himself and once again verified his status as an attention lover.

5. While Brenda Ngxoli's wins were much awaited, it was disappointing that the talented actress was not there to bask in her glory. Instead, moments of silence lead to everyone realising that Ngxoli was absent. A note to the organisers, double check the presence of nominees before going live to avoid such.

6. Isibaya taking home the best TV soap for the second year running was well deserved. Last year, the Mzansi Magic drama outperformed it's competitors. However, this year, the show has taken a slight down turn. Hopefully Bomb Shelter will be able to revive the soap's plot.

7. It was a tough run between iNumber Number and Four Corners. The feature films were both worthy contenders for several categories including best feature film. But Four Corner's gritty, hardcore take on gangsterism on the Cape Flats ensured it had a one up on Donovan Marsh's crime thriller.

8. Minnie Dlamini took it all in her stride when she was teased for releasing a calender. Host, Loyiso Gola opined that it was a ridiculous business idea but Dlamini's response - that she would 'not pull a DJ Sbu' was a classy comeback. Either way, Dlamini will probably getting more orders for her calender since Gola unwittingly punted her project.

9. Jezriel Skrei made history when he won the Best Actor in a Lead Role for Four Corners. Skrei who was 13 at the time of filming, beat S'dumo Mtshali, Pallance Dladla and Willie Esterhuizen to the top prize.

10. With Bonang Matheba being the favourite to clinch the Best TV presenter award, it was very awkward when Mbali Mlotshwa who was presenting the award, kept calling Matheba's name. Instead it was Expresso's Katlego Maboe who took home the accolade, in what was one of the night's most unexpected wins.

11. One of the biggest upsets of the night was when Celeste Ntuli was overlooked for Best Supporting Soap TV Actress. The award went to Marjorie Lange of Scandal! Ntuli has proven her mettle in her Isibaya role. She has gone out of her comfort zone to portray a character that resonates with many women around the country. When Lange's name was called out, the silence echoed the shock that many felt about that category win.

12. Masasa Mbangeni is officially the Best TV Soap Actress in the country. Mbangeni brought home the gong to the delight of her etv family who previously snubbed the awards. It was refreshing to see that popularity did not come into play, instead the deserving Mbangeni was rewarded for her exemplary efforts.

13. Brendon Daniels of Four Corners had things abuzz when accepting his award he shouted out 'his partner and girlfriend of 19 years.' It put a lighthearted spin on the event, and took the conversation around the auditorium to relationships and just what is acceptable.
