Ntombee Ngcobo has revealed that her newborn son was born with a very rare heart condition.

According to Drum Magazine, the singer - best known for her role in the Maskandi group Amaponi, asked for prayers on Monday as Dunamis Sizwe Junior Asande Mzolo went through a very complicated surgery.

Her son was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome - which means that the left side of his heart was critically under-developed.

According to the Mayo Clinic, advances in care mean that the child has a better prognosis than in the past.

The boy made it through the surgery according to her Instagram account, saying "Thank you #Blessed People for all your prayers."
