SABC1 telenovela, Uzalo, has confirmed the exit of one of its star characters.

Uzalo actor, Bonga Dlamini, who portrays the character of Mkhonto Xulu, Muzi Xulu’s younger brother, told the Sowetan on Friday that he felt disappointed that his contract with the soapie was not renewed.

“I am disappointed but I am also looking forward to the new year and new challenges. I enjoyed playing Mkhonto and I had plans to make it more interesting.

Dlamini will however be proud of the fact that he was part of Uzalo’s achievement thus far. The dram series recently replaced Generations: The Legacy as the biggest soapie in terms of viewership.

Marang Setshwaelo of Dreamcatcher, a company that does publicity for Uzalo, told the newspaper that the storyline around Mkhonto’s character had reached its end.

Mkhonto played a thug and ex-convict who spent 15 years in jail for his younger brother Muzi. He came out of jail full of anger.
