Singer Dr Malinga says he is open to the idea of joining 'Idols' as a judge and has promised “fireworks” should he get the job.

Following the axing of Gareth Cliff by M-Net from the popular music show last week, Dr Malinga’s name is topping the list of most music fans to join the Idols SA judge’s panel, The Juice reported.

"You saw the va-va voom that Somizi brought to Idols last year? It would be fireworks! it would be very great!" Malinga told the website.

The flying kick master already has experience as a music show judge. He was a resident judge on e.tv’s Turn and Dance show in 2015. The singer sees the Idols gig as a massive step up.

“It would be a big step but I'm not canvassing for it,” he said.

Should Dr Malinga get the gig, he will replace radio personality Gareth Cliff, who was last week fired from Idols SA after being embroiled in a race debate on social media.
