A South African rapper who played at Hobart’s Mofo Festival has been jailed in Tasmania for indecent assault according to a report.

According to the Hoboart Mercury Brian Simiso Zwane, who performs as OkMalumKoolKat, has been jailed for indecent assault and assault with indecent intent on a fellow artist - as she slept in her hotel room.

He had apparently entered her room through an external sliding door which she had left open. She awoke to find him in her bed, kissing her neck and rubbing his hands over her private parts.

Zwane tried to argue for a fine, but the magistrate was having none of it, sentencing him to six months jail with five months suspended and backdated to last Saturday.

“It was a gross invasion, a terrible invasion. She was entitled to be [secure] without you mauling her like this,” Deputy Chief Magistrate Michael Daley said.
