After Ntsiki Mazwai published a series of tweets that appeared to accuse Simphiwe Dana of being an alcoholic who slept her way to the top - Dana has released a statement saying she would take the poet to court.

According to Jozi Gist the twar began when Mazwai was challenged to come up with a concept for a talent show.

Mazwai said that Simphiwe Dana had come to an open mic session she had hosted.

Dana didn't remember it.

Dana clarified the issue - apparently they were both part of a poetry group called Feelah Sista - and not someone engaged in discovering talent.

Things went downhill from there, when Dana accused Mazwai of badmouthing her.

Now, according to Sowetan LIVE Dana has responded in a statement - and is planning to take Mazwai to court:

"There are various tweets that imply that Simphiwe Dana is an alcoholic and has slept her way to the top, Simphiwe distances herself from these tweets as they are false and are defamatory.

"Moving forward, Simphiwe Dana will be taking legal action against Ntsiki Mazwai for her tweets, as they may cause irreparable reputational damage to her personal brand and that of other brands that are in partnership with Ms Dana.

"This is not the message that we want to send out to the young future leaders of South Africa and Africa as a whole about Simphiwe Dana’s character. Simphiwe Dana stands for hard work, ambition, dedication, perseverance and the right support to become successful as is proven by her social activities and involvement."
