Long‚ drawn-out speeches get the ultimate snub at this year's 88th Academy Awards in an effort to liven up the show. Taking place this Sunday‚ and airing in South Africa on M-Net on Monday at 19:30‚ this year’s awards will see conventional speeches fall away for a thank-you scroll system.Producers of the ceremony Reginald Hudlin and David Hall are reported to have encouraged nominees to complete the scroll card containing the names of the people he/she would like to thank should he/she win before the ceremony.When the winner is announced‚ the names of those family and friends the winner would like to thank will scroll along the bottom of the screen while‚ the producers hope‚ the winner uses their 45 seconds to say something meaningful.According to Entertainment Weekly‚ producers argue for the move by saying that a scrolled mention can be screen-shot and framed.“Words are written on the winds‚” they said. “A screen grab of your scroll can be kept forever.”This year‚ the prestigious awards have been the centre of racial controversy this year‚ with a number of A-list entertainers boycotting the event as a result of actors of colour being excluded from the nominee list.Meanwhile‚ renowned actor Leonardo DiCaprio continues to be the talk of the town‚ with people predicting (and hoping) that this will be the year he nabs the coveted gold statue.DiCaprio‚ who has never won the award‚ is nominated in the Best Actor category for his portrayal of frontiersman Hugh Glass in The Revenant...
