J.Cole to perform in Johannesburg - for one night only

Rea Khoabane | 29 March, 2016 15:11

Hip Hop is the order of the day in South Africa: Self-acclaimed king of modern hip hop J.Cole is coming to SA‚ hot on the heels of Anaconda hitmaker Nicki Minaj‚ who had a three-city tour earlier this month.

For one night only‚ on June 18‚ J.Cole will unleash his chart topping tracks‚ inspirational lyrics and unforgettable beats at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg.

This is not the first trip for the artist‚ whose real name is Jermaine Lemarr Cole. In 2012‚ J.Cole performed at the Big Brother Africa opening ceremony.

His 2014 Forest Hills Drive album had the highest first-week sales of a rap album‚ selling 353‚000 copies. This was over 100‚000 copies more than Nicki Minaj's The Pinkprint‚ which sold 244‚000 copies in its first week. The album also sold 1.1 million in the states alone‚ making him one of the only six rappers to reach the number one spot on the billboard charts‚ with his first three albums.

Signed to Jay-Z's record label‚ Rock Nation‚ J.Cole was featured in Beyonce’s hit single Party‚ which came out a month before his full length debut album‚ which is called Cole World.

The Wet Dreams hit-maker‚ whose album is named after the address of his childhood home in North Carolina‚ USA‚ also received an endorsement from President Barack Obama two weeks ago after performing at a Democratic Party fundraiser.

General access and Golden Circle tickets to his Jozi show will available for purchase at R250 and R490 respectively‚ from 31 March‚ at www.castlelite.co.za. There is an age restriction of 18 years and older.
