There’s been a lot of hype around Donald’s announcement last week that he would be recording his first ever live DVD, The Red Mic Xperience, in August.

Now the musician has elaborated on how the idea came about, fingering a SAMA snub back in 2013 as the catalyst.

Speaking to DJ Sabby on YFM in this video below,  Donald says that in 2013 he was snubbed at the SAMAs and it was then that he realised he needed to change.

“I was actually left out of the SAMAs and that was actually my biggest year. Very interestingly I got a last minute call to say that I am going to be performing. And I was like, ‘Cool.

"Sharp. So I’m going to be performing at the SAMAs but I’m not nominated.’ I decided I wanted to make my performance special and I’m going to do something different.”

Donald says that he went and bought an expensive microphone and it was in that moment that the life of the red mic was born.

The Red Mic Xperience is going to be held on 19 August and Donald has roped in some big names that will be working on the project with him including Somizi as choreographer and Riky Rick and Busiswa as support acts on the night.

Donald has promised that the show will “bring fire” and South African audiences must brace themselves for something spectacular.
