South Africa’s first gay and inclusive rugby team‚ Jozi Cats has pushed the envelope in their new initiative to recruit more players. The cheeky campaign sees the burly players from the rugby team in a series of photographs emblazoned with homophobic slurs in an attempt to challenge stereotypes about gay male athletes Speaking to TMG Entertainment‚ Jozi Cats Chairman‚ Teveshan Kuni revealed that they are recruiting for new members‚ who could be either be highly-experienced‚ down to a rookie who has never picked up a rugby ball before. “We are encouraging people who have played rugby before‚ and even if they’ve never played‚ or have never even watched a rugby game before‚ or don’t know any rugby players to come and join us‚” he said. In keeping with the goal to challenge stereotypes regarding gay sportsmen‚ Kuni emphasised that Jozi Cats is hardly a hyper-masculine environment.“Everyone thinks it’s all these butch gay guys‚ but tat’s not who we are.”“We create a space for people‚ where no matter how flamboyant you are‚ you can come and be yourself. And although‚ we’re a wide demographic of the gay community‚ we don’t expect you to be out as we respect everyone’s privacy‚” he added. ..
