Eastern-inspired TV channel Glow faces the chop

Kagiso Media has recently confirmed that as from 30 June 2016, its eastern-inspired TV Channel, Glow TV will no longer be available on all its media platforms due to the "current economic climate and the higheer cost of programming."

Launched in October 2013 as Kagiso Media’s first attempt at joining the television market, Glow TV – managed by Urban Brew Studios, has been available on satellite platfoms; DStv, OpenView HD and StarSat, bringing eastern-inspired programming across various genres to viewers.

 “Glow viewers have been supportive, loyal and dedicated. They are the ones most affected by our decision. We thank our valued viewers, advertisers and the satellite platforms for their amazing support of Glow TV over the past two and a half years,” Urban Brew Studios CEO Trish Taylor revealed in a press statement.

In addition, Kagiso Media Group CEO Mark Harris explained that it’s important for the “business models associated with channels and programming [to] work for the broader group.”

The black-owned media corporation as well as Urban Brew Studios revealed that will not be adding another channel to replace Glow TV.
