Following reports that several cars were stolen near the Mall of Africa during the shopping centre’s grand opening last month, Daily Sun has revealed that three men attempted to steal Kedibone Mulaudzi’s Jeep Wrangler at the newly-launched mall in Midrand on Thursday.

The local publication reports that Kedibone was walking back to the parking area at the shopping centre with his two children and a few of their friends when they noticed a man sitting in his car, with two others standing around it.

“At first I got confused when I saw the men at my car. My first thought was I must be standing next to the wrong car,” he told Daily Sun.

“Then it hit me what was really happening. I screamed to a mall guard to help me," he added.

While screaming, Kedibone claims the three men went into another car, and drove off. However, the police managed to catch thieves, who have since been arrested close to the mall.

“I managed to get back my laptop that was stolen,” Kedibone said.

Mall of Africa spokeswoman Zenet Mathiga revealed to the paper that the they are well-informed about the reported theft cases, however claimed that most of them didn't occur at the mall's premises.

“We have a close relationship with the police and Fidelity Security, which guards the mall 24 hours a day,” she said.
