The creator of popular SABC 1 soapie Generations Mfundi Vundla is set to team up with the actor who once played one of the much-loved characters Archie Moroka on the show - all in the name of charity.

It was announced on Monday that Mfundi will be producing a South African version of the theatre charity event, The Children's Monologues, to be held next month and that the event had enlisted some of TV and theatre's biggest names to help him tell his story.

The show, which weaves together several stories or monologues of children's memories, will be held on May 20 at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg and will feature local actors Robert Whitehead (Best known for his role as Barker Haines on SABC 3 soapie Isidingo), Lesedi Job, Sonia Radebe, Masasa Mbangeni, Lebo Toko, Jamie Bartlett (best known for his role as David Genaro on etv's Rhythm City) and Sello Maake Ka-Ncube, who once played the role of Archie Moroka on Generations.

The Children's Monologues was first launched as a once-off charity event held at the Old Vic Theatre in London in 2010 to raise funds for an art centre in South Africa. The show featured Hollywood actors Sir Ben Kingsley, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Gemma Arterton and Eddie Redmayne and was directed by Danny Boyle.

Proceeds from the local version of the event will go to the same charity used by Children's Monologues UK, Dramatic Need, which runs an arts and cultures centre in the poor community of Viljoenskroon in the Free State.
