Insiders close to Boity Thulo have lambasted claims that she has received 'the calling' and is on the way to becoming a sangoma.

Sowetan on Friday reported that an outfit that the presenter wore on an episode of Club 808 has received condemnation from cultural rights groups, with some calling on her to apologise.

Boity posted a picture of her outfit on social media with the caption: "We're still celebrating #AfricaMonth on @club808_ig. Tonight I'm rocking my Kumkanikazi Dabulamanzi attire and of course a @sissyboyjeans dress."

  • Boity shakes off romance rumours: I'm too singleBoity Thulo may have been rumoured to be romancing a new flame but it seems nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the star is "too single" to even watch a rom-com at home.

Her outfit has caused widespread debate, with many questioning whether she has received the calling as her outfit and accessories are seen as symbolic to initiates and inyangas.

But those close to Boity have told TMG Entertainment that Boity has neither received 'the calling' nor did she mean to offend anyone in her choice of clothes.

"This was really a case of an outfit choice. There is nothing more to it. She has certainly not received the calling. That is an absurd presumption. She also did not mean to offend anyone," explains the source.

  • Boity’s hilarious run-in with the lawTV personality Boity Thulo took to social media to relive one of the weirdest encounters any motorist can have with the law.

Sowetan is reporting that Sheila Mbele Khama from the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Commission) insisted that Boity should not have worn the beads for fashion purposes.

"We are not allowed to pass on beads. It's like ones medication," she said.

But insiders close to Boity say this was not the intention, again reiterating that it was an outfit worn for the show "nothing more and nothing less."
