Surprises in store for fans at the 2016 Africa Day Concert

Africa Day may have passed but it seems the festivities have only just begun. Music fans from across South Africa are preparing for the Africa Day concert to be held at Newtown Park in Johannesburg on Saturday May 28.

The event will see some of Africa's biggest acts take to the stage to celebrate the continent's diversity and cultural heritage.

The concert is set to feature famous names such as Waje from Nigeria, Olivier Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe, Vaudou Game from Togo, Hagar Samir from Egypt, Maya Kamati from Reunion and Songhoy Blues from Mali.

Zonke, Maleh, The Soil, Nakhane Toure and Tribute Birdie will represent South Africa at the celebrations.

Talking to TMG Entertainment this week, The Soil's Ntsika Ngxanga says that the group have been locked in rehearsals for the last three weeks preparing a special performance for the event.

"We are preparing four songs that we known have been big songs across Africa and we're going to rework them especially for the show," he said.

Ntsika adds that the group are "beyond excited" to perform for their fans and promised it will be a special occasion.

"We have been looking forward to this show for some time and it will only be more special because it will be the first time that our new vocalist Theo will play for such a large crowd. We can't wait for everyone to see how talented she is," he said.

Lesotho born songbird Maleh will also take to the stage on Saturday. She told TMG Entertainment that she cannot wait to show fans what she has in store for them.

"My entrance on the set will be magical and will fit the theme of Africa day well," Maleh revealed. "The theme for Africa day is a theme that I often share in my sets as a proud African."

Maleh said that fans can expect to hear songs from both of her albums, and perhaps even a few covers.

"Fans can expect a high energy show, perhaps a little more energetic than my shows were a few years ago. There might be a cover or two, we've been debating it, but I can't reveal too much," the songbird added.

Maleh says that she cannot wait to hit the stage and is especially excited to sing for those who have never seen her perform before.

" I think anyone who has never seen me perform before will be super surprised," she said.
