Cowen, who has been on a long health and fitness journey, said that she often gets asked how she lost all the weight.

But, as Cowen points out, it is not how she lost the weight that is important but why she gained to start with.

"I got fat because I stopped drinking and started eating and it took over a decade to get myself to where I am now. Earlier this year I wrote a book, From Whiskey to Water. I'm an alcoholic and I've been sober for 14 and a half years."

The radio personality says that since her 9-year-old child started telling her friends at school about her mom, Cowen decided it may be time to open up.

She's written a book, From Whiskey to Water, where she will detail not only her battle to give up the bottle, but also on her journey to get her life on the right track.

"It's about how the light at the end of the tunnel is not always a bloody great train. And it's about how swimming in the ocean beats drowning in whiskey or ice cream. And mostly it's about trying to swop being perfect for being human, a daily challenge. "
