Rapper AKA has responded to reports of violence in Tshwane, calling looters "F*cking criminals" and calling on South Africa to take a holiday from itself.
Violence and looting marred protests in areas including Soshanguve, Mamelodi, Hammanskraal, Mabopane and Atteridgeville on Monday and Tuesday, following the announcement of Thoko Didiza as the ANC’s mayoral candidate forTshwane.
As protestors blocked roads with burning tyres and set fire to vehicles, celebs joined the chorus of voices on social media calling for calm and peace in the area.
Despite being on a plane to America, AKA responded to news of violence and looting in his home country.
After enquiring with fans about the situation, AKA made his feelings known.
One of the first celebrities to share her shock was Our Perfect Wedding presenter Thembisa Mdoda. Taking to Twitter, she posted a simple messages expressing her heartbreak at the violence.
Her shock was echoed by hip-hop artist HHP, who posted a picture of a burnt out vehicle next to the caption: "TF is happening in Pretoria?!"
Musician Phila Mdlozi also added his frustration at the scenes, exclaiming "enough is enough!!"
As tempers flared and the area came to resemble a war-zone, other well-known personalities took to their social media platforms to call for calm.
"Please help put a stop to this before people get hurt. We love this city and its people way too much to see it go up in smoke," wrote rapper Blacklez.
Idols Judge Somizi and rapper Proverb used their pages to ask fans to pray for the city.
"Can we take a moment tonight before we sleep and pray for our own yard. #prayformzansi #prayforpeace #prayforsolutions before things escalate to an uncontrollable situation. Good night," Somizi wrote.
