While it's no secret that Lira is on a tireless quest to change the face of SA's music industry, the mammoth task does not, however, come without any obstacles.

Speaking to Destiny magazine recently, the songstress opened up about the challenges that have come with building her international career.

"What I’ve learnt over the years is to structure my finances so I can afford my dreams. The reason I’ve gone independent is because there’s so much red tape for an African artist who wants to infiltrate the world. But the challenge is that you need so many more resources," she told the local publication.

Not only focused on music, Lira - who is also a canny businesswoman - has also produced Dream Chaser, a TV series licensed to Fox Global, which follows her tour of 12 US states - housed under her record label, Otarel Music.

"One of my biggest limitations is being a South African artist earning in rands and having to spend euros and dollars to push my career around the world.

"It's painful in this current climate and sometimes that overwhelms and frustrates me," she was quoted as saying by the magazine.
