Gugu Zulu's body has arrived back in South Africa

The body of late racing car driver Gugu Zulu has been brought back to South Africa from Tanzania.

Family spokesperson Tseliso Motloheloa explained to TMG Entertainment that Zulu's body was repatriated from Tanzania on Thursday night.

"We initially expected the body to arrive today (Friday) but the documents were sorted out, and we were told that he was put on a plane late yesterday afternoon, and arrived last night," said Motloheloa.

Motloheloa added that the family were currently on their way to the mortuary to make arrangements, and that they had not yet finalised details of a post-mortem.

"We are going to the mortuary now and decisions for a post-mortem will only be finalised later in the day."

Zulu's widow, Letshego who was at his side during his final moment has also arrived back in the country.

"Letshego came back with the body and is mourning surrounded by family and friends," said Motloheloa.

Zulu who was part of a 42-member Trek4Mandela expedition died on Monday morning, while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for sanitary pads. Zulu complained of having "flu-like" symptoms.

Zulu's death has sent shock waves across the country with fans, friends and family remembering him in an outpouring of tributes.

A memorial service in honour of Zulu will be held on 26 July at the Kyalami race track with his funeral service taking place on 28 July at the Rhema Bible Church. Both services will be open to the public.
