Former Joyous Celebration lead singer Mahalia Buchanan has opened up about how she narrowly escaped a series of harrowing near-death experiences last year.

During an interview with Move!, Mahalia shared details about how a bullet was shot through the window of her bedroom, after a fight broke out in her complex.

  •

"I had just fallen asleep when I heard a gunshot. When I jumped out of bed to check where the sound came from, I just froze when I realised that there was a hole on the side of my bedroom window and there was a bullet right next to my bed," she recalled.

The singer further revealed that this was followed by an instance in which she was held at gunpoint in downtown Johannesburg, when a man approached her and demanded her cellphone and handbag.

While, she managed to escape from that ordeal, another traumatic event occurred in September last year, when a gunman broke into her house which she shared with her mother.

"The man held us at gunpoint and took our TV set, phones and other appliances," she told the local publication.

"We were so shocked and traumatised. We never reported the incident to the police, instead we vacated the complex," she added.
