Letshego Zulu thanks the nation for 'overwhelming support'

It has no doubt been the hardest ten days for Gugu Zulu's widow Letshego and their family, who bid a final farewell to the racing car driver on Thursday.

Taking to social media on Friday morning, 24 hours after laying her husband to rest, Letshego thanked Zulu's fans and those close to them for the "overwhelming support" during this tough time.

"I would like extend my deepest gratitude to all who loved My Gugz for all your messages of comfort during this sad time. Thank you," she said.

Letshego extended a special thank you to Trek4Mandela expedition leader Richard Mabaso, Nelson Mandela Foundation CEO Sello Hatang, Volkswagen SA, Gugu's sister Liyanda Zulu, their friends and their entire family, among others.

"Your love and support during this period mean the world to me. Thank You," added Letshego.

Tears flowed at the Rhema Bible Church on Thursday during Zulu's funeral service, where a heart-wrenching final letter from Letshego to her husband was read out.

"You were the most amazing father to our daughter. Her second name, Naledi meaning a star, is a name we found to be a perfect fit for her because she is indeed our star. She will keep shining brightly, my love, I will make sure of it."

Later on during the service Letshego herself pleaded with mourners to help her continue Zulu's legacy and promised to do more to to help raise awareness about charity initiatives that were close to his heart.
