The charismatic radio jock has played up to all of the fanfare around his move with Touch even hosting a party at a Sandton club where he provided free drinks to patrons.

After the long wait, he finally made his announcement. He is going to be partnering up with Gareth Cliff to create Touch Central, a new entertainment streaming platform.

Being Touch, the announcement wasn't made in a stuffy conference centre. Nah. He invited a handful of his close industry pals including hip-hop star AKA, his former co-host Refiloe Mpakanyana and his new business partner Gareth Cliff.

"This is historic for me. Sometimes life gives you an expected opportunity and you have to grab it. There were other offers but I've seen Gareth and the work that he is doing and this is going to change the game."

It was chance meeting between the pair at an event that led to the idea of a 24 hour online music platform.

"We weren't friends. We'd see each other if we bumped into each other but that was about it. When we saw each other, Touch was filled with ideas, as he is," said Gareth.

Launched up by a crane, 22 people were treated to a breakfast in the sky while sipping on expensive champagne and listening to beats by the Supa Mega.

"It's important to know what people want. And they want to be entertained. This is uncensored content where we'll have a host of big names - international and local - that will be bringing audiences what they want," said Touch.

With Gareth as co-founder of Cliff Central, the question on how that would affect operations on that platform was asked. "Not at all. Cliff Central is a podcast platform that has done extremely well. This is the next phase. The bigger phase," he said.

Touch will be hosting his own show from 3-7pm on weekdays and has cheekily decided to keep the name from his longstanding Metro FM gig. "It's The Touchdown. Nothing changes."

Refiloe, who also resigned after Touch left the public broadcaster, just giggled when asked if she would be joining her radio side-kick.

Either way, with the news trending as soon the the announcement was made, Gareth and Tbo Touch's new power partnership has made people sit up and take notice. Well, certainly in the SABC corridors.
