The SABC's 90 percent quota on local music may have caused quite a debate, but the decision has muso Simphiwe Dana smiling all the way to the bank!

The songbird took to Instagram on Thursday to sing the praises of the policy, implemented by the public broadcaster's COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng in May, and revealed that her bank balance is looking pretty healthy because of it.

"Already seeing the fruits of Hlaudi's 90%. The bank balance is lit nyana. Siyabonga," Simphiwe wrote, next to a picture of the SABC logo.

Simphiwe's comments come only a month after she took to the same platform to defend the policy in the face of criticism, pleading with its critics to "protect the new quotas, for the benefit of all of us, as many South Africans are part of the value chain that benefits from monetizing our cultures."

The decision to impose a 90 percent local music quota across all of the SABC's radio stations in May was largely hailed by musicians and saw the likes of rapper Shugasmakx rush to social media shortly after the announcement to defend its implementation.

"We are at WAR for our families, culture & heritage. If you know someone against 90% local they (are) a traitor, impimpi. #snitchesgetstitches #mabashiswe!!!" the Skwatta Kamp rapper said in a fierce message on his Instagram.

His battle-ready stance was echoed by Kings of the Weekend's DJ Naves, who added: "the reality of the situation is this...Shugasmakx is very militant but speaks the truth. I agree with him fully."
