Wololo hitmaker Babes Wodumo's management has hit back at criticism over her allegedly not knowing who Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is.

Babes became the talk of the town on Friday morning, after it emerged on social media that the songstress apparently said she did not know who Pravin Gordhan is, when she was asked about him during an interview.

This was in reference to the finance minister being summoned before the Hawks about claims related to his alleged role in the formation of the so-called 'rogue unit' which was set up during his time as head of the SA Revenue Service.

The singer, who is based in Durban, has been doing a series of performances and media interviews in Johannesburg over the past two days.

Social media has been set alight with comments over Babes apparently saying that she had never heard about him before.

Speaking to TMG Entertainment, Babes' manager defended her. "She (Babes) didn't say she doesn't know the minister. The problem is when you're prominent people will paint you with the wrong brush," said Mampintsha.

Mampintsha added that some people like her, while others are just jealous of her success.

"On the other hand when you are in the spotlight, people expect you to know everyone and then if you say you don't, it's a problem"

Even though Babes may not know who the finance minister is, her fans have rallied behind her.

In a string of comments fans have cheekily questioned whether Pravin Gordhan knows Babes.

Here's some of the reactions...
