Trevor Noah has spoken out about the state of South African politics, saying that people have been put in power who are uncontrollable.

In an exclusive interview on eNCA with Jeremy Maggs, The Daily Show host compared Donald Trump to Jacob Zuma and Julius Malema, saying that he comes from a world where "politicians are uncontrollable".

Noah was being quizzed on Donald Trump and the possibility of him being elected as the next American president.

The comedian said that he was optimistic and believed that Americans would not vote for a man who is divisive.

"Maybe I suffer from too much optimism but I don't believe America will vote that way. I do not believe that a majority of a country will vote for a man who is that divisive,  who will vote for an idea that is fundamentally opposed to what America is."

  •

He added that he believes that republicans are not being honest with themselves about Trump.

"If it were to happen, and I mean crazier things have happened, I don't know that America will be able to recover from it. I don't even think republicans are being honest with themselves in terms of them thinking they can control this person. "

Noah referred to South African politics, saying he comes from a country where politicians are "uncontrollable".

"You put them in the right position, you get them in the right place, and you realise that controlling them is not something that is manageable. There were people who thought they could control Julius Malema. There were people who thought they could control Jacob Zuma. But you come to realise that when you put the wrong man in the right place he can do the utmost damage. "

Maggs then asked if he misses poking fun at South African politicians, and Noah gave a resounding yes.

"I do, tremendously. Especially skinny Julius. I'm sad that I'm missing that.  I miss all the old boys. I miss what's happening back home. It's exciting. How did I miss Hlaudi? I wish I was around. Do you know how many times I got shows turned down by the SABC? I wish I was around for all of this."
