Actress Sibulele Gcilitshana has revealed that she will not be walking down the aisle anytime soon, asserting that she does not give into pressures of society which regard nuclear families as ideal social units.

During an interview with Move!, the single mother of two girls was unafraid to share her thoughts about marriage - which does not appeal to her.

She revealed that in bringing up her daughters, she realised that it isn't all that important  for children to have both actively involved parents.

"This may sound controversial, but I don't believe every woman my age should get married or rush themselves to raise their kids with a significant other," she told the local publication.

She further explained that while her stance on marriage is unpopular among her peers, her little family has been able to adapt to her choices and that they've been doing well thus far.

"Whenever I share this with people, I am always frowned upon. But fortunately, my family has learned to live with my choices and they are okay with it. I know some married people who live like single parents, therefore I don't see the need to be forced to follow a culture which sometimes doesn't fit in with today's lifestyle."

Fellow actress Manaka Ranaka, who is also a single mother of two, echoed the same sentiments during a recent interview with DRUM. She revealed that she sees no problem with raising her kids without their respective fathers.

"I tell my kids I grew up with two parents but sometimes I envied friends who were raised by a mother alone. This is because when parents fight, it becomes ugly for everyone in the house.

"I have a wonderful support system. It would have been harder without that. Thank God for my family and siblings. I work a 12-hour day, just like a firefighter, not nine to five," she said.
